Animaleja is the musical project of Colombian composer, producer and performer Sidney Alejandra Cárdenas. Blending electronic music with the rhythms of the Latin American and Caribbean diaspora, the project combines synthesizers, percussion, vocals and live instrumentation to create a distinctive alternative Latin sound.Animaleja has performed across Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Spain and the United States, appearing at festivals, showcases and music markets including BIME Bilbao, Altavoz Fest, Auditum Fest, Festival Invazion, Boom, Mercado Musical del Valle, Festival Cidades Eco Criativas – Derivas Oikos and Nashville Record Store Day.The project has collaborated and shared stages with artists such as Los Espíritus, Ruido Selecto, Meridian Brothers and Siete Catorce.Animaleja is currently releasing music on vinyl through the Nashville-based label No Sabes Projects, expanding its presence within the international alternative electronic and Latin diasporic music scene.

TropikalRoots is a multimedia installation that transforms a personal archive of drawings, sound and moving image into immersive audiovisual experiences inspired by Latin American tropical landscapes. Developed for exhibitions, artist residencies, festivals and community spaces, the project invites audiences to explore new connections between listening, memory and territory.

Sound Artist

Sidney Cárdenas is a Colombian sound artist, composer, electronic music producer and researcher whose practice bridges sound, moving image and participatory processes. Rooted in listening, memory and territory, her work combines sound installation, experimental composition, field recording and audiovisual media to create immersive experiences that connect cultural landscapes with contemporary technologies.Her projects have been presented in exhibitions, festivals, research initiatives and interdisciplinary collaborations across Latin America, Through installations, performances, community-based processes and sound design, she develops artistic research that explores how listening, personal archives and collective memory can activate new ways of experiencing place, identity and cultural heritage.
